SAM QUERREY:  I mean, that's tough to not say Rafa, because he won French and Wimbledon.  But I think on the hard court I would say Federer.

Q.  Did you and David Ferrer talk in the locker room after the match at all?
FERNANDO VERDASCO:  Well, we just saw each other for a few seconds, and we just, you know, normal. He told me, well done. I told him, like, I'm really sorry. Then I told him, like, you know, that we need to keep fighting to be both in the Masters Cup. We have a great relationship. Of course when you lose a match like this today for him -- if I lost this match, for sure I was so upset and pissed on the -- it's true -- on the locker room. But at the end, you know, we are good friends, and I want him the best, no? I want him to be in the Masters Cup. And of course I hope that he will do it.

Q.  What are the tactics involved when you play Kim?
VENUS WILLIAMS:  Win the point. (Laughter.) You know, basically just go out there and, as I always do, try to execute my game and win the point, win the set.

GAËL MONFILS: (Through translation.) Ah, that's a good question. I mean, you just tell me. I wouldn't know, but they will arrive. I mean, I not really follow like juniors, so it's tough. But I think Nishikori is still young, I think, no?


Q. He's not a teenager.
GAËL MONFILS: No? Ah. So I don't know. Maybe my brother. (Laughter.) My brother is on the way, 17. Two years.

Q. You didn't always seem to see eye-to-eye with the umpire. What was that about?
ROBIN SODERLING: Well, she refused me to make a challenge. It never happened to me, ever in my career. So I was a little bit confused. That's it.

Q. Your next opponent is either 5'2" or 5'3", depending on who you believe will win. How old were you when you were 5'2"?
CAROLINE WOZNIACKI: Wow, that's a tough question. I don't know. You know, I think I wasn't that big, you know. I think I started growing when I was maybe 16. Then I really started growing a lot. I don't know. You know, everyone is different. Everyone has their strengths, their weaknesses. You know, someone is short, someone is tall. I think it really doesn't matter when you're on court.

Q. Could you talk a little bit more just about being short? Is it a pain? Is it a drag? Do you sometimes see it as an advantage? Do you get some joy from it? Just talk about that.
DOMINIKA CIBULKOVA: Being what?

Q. Being short.
DOMINIKA CIBULKOVA: Being short? Ah, being short. (Smiling.) You know, I don't take this like disadvantage, because, you know, okay, I'm short, but, you know, I'm really quick. I can be fast on the court, and I have no problem with the low balls. I still can play fast and step into the court, so I really like the way I'm short. Maybe I could be little more centimeters taller for my serve, but it's still nothing like, you know, I really struggle with. So I'm happy the way I am.

Q. Do you remember, have you won a match before when you lost the first set 6-0?
KAIA KANEPI: Well, actually I was looking at Sharapova, won 6-Love, 6-Love. I told my fitness coach, I remember last time I lost 6-Love, 6-Love was I think when I was 13. A match 6-Love, I thought, wow, I need to take a game.

Q. Do you think Cibulkova is a very, very good player? What do you think of her?
SVETLANA KUZNETSOVA: I think she plays good, but my level is higher, and I have to win these matches.

Q. You obviously have a great connection not only with New Haven but with Yale University and all the fun you've had about that. I know you're in the middle of a tournament now, but if you did have a chance to go take some courses there, what do you think you would like to take a course in?
CAROLINE WOZNIACKI: Well, I don't know. You know, that really depends what they have. But definitely something like business, something like that. It really interests me. Something ‑‑ management, something in that direction.
But I would have to search into some courses and then find out what really interests me.

Q. When you were a junior, was the whole Maria image thing something that you thought maybe one day you'd emulate?
CAROLINE WOZNIACKI: Um, which way?


Q. Well, she's the big Nike girl. You're now Stella McCartney.
CAROLINE WOZNIACKI: Well, you know, to be honest, Kournikova was always for me the girl that I thought was just ‑‑ I wanted to be like her, definitely, you know. I thought she was very pretty; she was handling everything really nicely. You saw her everywhere in the commercials.
I think I would more go for Kournikova.

Q. The other day you spoke about how much you looked up to Maria and that you had never had the chance to meet her. Can you describe any interaction that you had with her before or after the match today?
BEATRICE CAPRA: Before the match, you know, she would just walk past me and kind of like give me a glare, which is kind of intimidating. (Laughter.)
You know, after the match when we shook hands, she was really nice. She said, Great tournament. Keep up the hard work. You know, I think she's a really nice person. Yeah.

Q. Did you to talk to Melanie before the match today or in the last couple of days?
BEATRICE CAPRA: After I won my second round, Melanie sent me the nicest text ever. She said if I needed help with anything or if I needed any advice, just come to her, and she's really happy for me. Melanie and I are really good friends.
And I wanted ‑‑ I should have talked to Melanie before the match, because I was wondering ‑‑ I was like, Was Melanie this nervous before she played? (Laughter.) I didn't get the chance to, but I probably should have. Yeah.

Q. I know you've done it before, but you went out, had a half hour or more on the practice court. Is that because you didn't think you had enough time on court?
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, no rallies. Probably two rallies in the match that went past eight, nine shots. It's very windy on the court, so I just went out and hit for 45 minutes just to get, you know, a bit of a rhythm; hit a lot of balls.

Q. If Rafa were to win here and complete the career slam, how do you think that will change the way his record is looked at, his career is looked at, in comparison with Roger's?

ANDY MURRAY: I have no idea. No idea.

Q. I thought you showed a lot of positive emotion early, the double fist pump. How important is it to channel the positive emotion?
ANA IVANOVIC: It's very important. That's something that I felt change over last few months. I became a lot more positive on the court. Even if the things were not going my way, I still, you know, had a fist pump. I still tried to bring a lot of energy on the court.
That kind of, you know, helps also supporters get into the match more. I felt that. I'm, you know, sticking with it.

Q. Kim said she looks forward to the rematch; that she hoped that you won. When she was off, she followed your career and likes you as a player. How do you feel in response to those comments that Kim made?
ANA IVANOVIC: That's really nice to hear, because she is such a nice person. I do, ever since I started on tour, I thought highly of her and really admired her for everything she achieved. I still do. I have great respect for her.
It's true also when I was struggling, she was messaging me. She was very supportive. That's really rare and really nice to see. In those times, you know who your friends are. She's definitely a nice girl. We always have a nice time catching up. So it's going to be fun.

Q. Back to the Stieg Larsson books. The main character, Elizabeth Salander, she's a feisty character. Do you get any inspiration from that? She takes no nonsense from anyone.
ANA IVANOVIC: I do recognize myself in some of them.
I do get very stubborn sometimes. That's a little bit annoying to my coaches. But, hey, you have to take the bad, too.

Q.  Do you ever ask your mother to be a little more calm when she's watching, or...
ELENA DEMENTIEVA:  I always ask her, but I realize it's very difficult to watch and not be able to help.  She's very emotional, and she really wants me to win. So it's kind of hard, because she's not only my coach, she's my mom.  Well, I guess it's just very emotional for her.

Q. What a shot. We saw Roger do that shot a few times. A lot of people have been asked if they would do it. Most have said they probably wouldn't unless it was a bizarre circumstance. Talk about the circumstance that led to that shot.
FRANCESCA SCHIAVONE: I don't know. Is instinct, I think. When you calculate that it's good time to do it and good ball to do it, you do it.
So is nothing program. Is just instinct. Is art. Is something that is coming from inside, and you have just to take in a good timing, otherwise the ball fly.

Q. Had you done that in a match before?
FRANCESCA SCHIAVONE: Yeah, yeah. Many times. And they told me that they show in the TV the best five shot. The first one was Roger, was amazing. Second one was a rally between Djokovic and Nadal. Third and fourth, I don't know, but men's. And the last one, I was with this one.
Maybe I go a little bit forward, like third place. (Smiling.)
